Executive Chefs, Evan Strong, along with his wife, Mariah Strong, and sisters Arianna Strong and Stephanie Strong opened THE FIX in the summer of 2009, with a vision of creating Nevada City's whole food vegetarian dining experience. They learned to prepare living raw food cuisine from teachers such as Gabriel Cousins, David Wolfe and Daniel Vitalis.
Parents Lisa and Roger Strong moved the kids to Maui when they were very young (Arianna, 2yrs, Evan 7yrs, Stephanie, 10yrs) to start a 13 acre organic fruit and vegetable permaculture farm run on solar energy. The example of this alternative lifestyle and eating what you grow yourself, whole and raw has influenced the course of their lives and help to form their mission, to achieve optimal health and help others to reach that goal as well. Lisa started her own home schooling center for the local children of Hana, Maui and raised all three of their children with hands on conscious education. The business's have been an extension of their home schooling, you could call it Business 101 Strong style. They encouraged their kids to do what they love and follow their passion, whatever form that took and give them the support to manifest their passions into a business. They decided what they were passionate about was living, organic, farm to table, locally grown (from their own garden too!) artful gooood food.
Evan's personal experience of the healing qualities of this lifestyle occurred during the past seven years in his recovery from a devastating accident in which he was hit by a car head on while riding a motorcycle. This resulted in severe damage to his arm and leg and consequently the amputation of his left leg below the knee. He was determined that he would, despite his handicap, achieve his dreams of becoming a professional athlete. He attributes his nearly unbelievable recovery to the combination of a live food diet and athletic drive. His athletic accomplishments since his injury in sports such as mountain biking, cycling, rock climbing, snowboarding and skateboarding have shown him what this diet and lifestyle can do. Evan competes in the summer and winter X Games for skateboarding and snowboarding, bringing home the Gold at the Winter X Games Seventeen in Aspen Colorado. He is well on his way to the Olympics after taking Gold at five World Cups in Orcieres, France, Banff, Canada and New Zealand in the winter of 2011. Evan took first at the World Championships in Orcieres, France in the winter of 2012 and is now ranked #1 in the world, holding the title for World Champion in Para Boarder Cross Snowboarding.
Mariah and Arianna met at the age of 7 as kids on Maui. They have been best friends ever since, growing up side by side, the beach and rainforest their stomping ground. You might say it was a girls fantasy come true that they would really become sisters. Mariah and Ariannas older brother, Evan, were married in October of 2010 in Keanae, Maui. Arianna was their maid of honor.
Mariah has been part of the family for years, growing up almost every night was a sleep over at the Strong's house. So it was only natural when she finally took on the last name Strong. As soon as Mariah graduated on Maui she was on the first plane over to California after spending a year long distance from Evan, her boyfriend at the time. Mariah is one of seven siblings, five girls and two boys. Her mother, Kadi Mourningstar is a renowned midwife on Maui who has helped deliver hundreds of babies over the last 30 years. Her father, Robert Fulcher is a master chef who has taught Mariah since she was a child. Even with a lot of mouths to feed, the food was always 5 stars at their house. That was definitely where you wanted to spend Thanksgiving! Her Brother, Bobba Lou, Is a trained culinary chef who has been head chef at numerous top restaurants and resorts in Hawaii as well as right here in Nevada City. You may have even seen her sister Jasmine waitressing at The Fix. Her lovely younger sisters may even come join the crew in the future!
As young entrepreneurs, Evan and Arianna follow in the path of their older sister, Stephanie who is the owner along with their mother Lisa of 33 Degree, an eclectic boutique which shares half of the building. Stephanie has owned and run her own business's for the last 11 years since the age of 17. Bohemia Boutique was her first, started in 2000 on Maui and her second opened in 2003. She extended her business with The Bohemian Cafe and Gypsy Tea Room in 2003. She went on to starting Gryphon Boutique in Capitola, CA in 2006. Beauty and love have always been what she values most in life and it is evident when you walk into 33 Degree. It is designed to expand your experience at THE FIX, making this a multi-faceted shopping and cafe experience. 33 Degree features our communities abundance of creative local artists of handmade jewelry, clothing, and art meant to cater to men, women and children's wear. We now have another crew member, Taj O'Brien, now affianced to Stephanie after a romantic 11.11.11 engagement. Their wedding is planned for August. We are very happy to have him a part of the family now. He has fit right in and brought so much to the table, no pun intended. He has been a Fix lover since the beginning, playing music at our grand opening, and now behind the counter working side by side with us. We invite you all to come in and meet our new addition!
We invite you to come and experience the magic of organic raw food vegetarian eating.
